Let's begin at the beginning

Updated: Apr 29, 2023

The idea for this road trip was born out of necessity. Let me explain.

For years I have wanted to do a big trek. I had a horsepacking trip planned from Calgary to Anchorage - with maps and routes all worked out. The gods laughed and I blew out my back. And because I have bad knees, hiking is out, as well.

So, a road trip it would have to be.

The idea eventually got shelved, as ideas often do, because life got in the way.

After 20 years in hi-tech, I started my hot pepper farm. It was an awesome experience that left me almost bankrupt.

With incredible luck, I found a 'real' job back in hi-tech and have been happily and gainfully employed ever since.

I am almost at retirement age and I have been bucket-listing for the past year - I bought a guitar, started learning guitar and music theory, restored another guitar, rebuilt my workshop and more.

One of the 'items' on my list is to work on my relationships with my siblings.

At this point, suffice it to say that we haven't been very close over the past, oh, 50 years or so.

Anyhow, back to the road trip.

I put out the idea to my brother Mike a few weeks ago - just flying a balloon, so to speak, and Mike seemed to like it. Then, last week, he got laid off, so the timing was fortuitous. I suggested it again, and here we are.

I fly to Seattle on May 4 and get back to Israel on May 24.

The general idea is to drive through and experience Washington, Oregon, NoCal, a bit of Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, a bit of Montana and back to Seattle. Whew.

I'm not sure what this site will end up looking like, and how lint-picking the blogs will be, but one way or another - OACA! (One Absolutely Crazy Adventure - pronounced WAKKA)
